How to calculate zakat in three steps
Add your wealth
Cash, bank balances, gold and silver, savings, investments, goods for sale and money you expect to get back.
Subtract debts due now
Take away the debts and bills you have to pay now.
Compare with the nisab
If the net is at least the value of 85 g of gold (or 595 g of silver) for a lunar year, 2.5% is due.
Nisab, hawl and debts: the rules behind the zakat calculator
What the calculator needs from you, in brief.
Nisab: the threshold
Zakat is due only when your net wealth reaches the nisab: the value of 85 g of gold or 595 g of silver. Enter today's price per gram and the zakat calculator works it out.
Hawl: one lunar year
The wealth must stay at or above the nisab for a full lunar year, about 354 days. Many people calculate on the same date every year.
2.5% of the net
Once both are met, zakat is 2.5% of your net zakatable wealth. A net of 10,000 means 250 is due.
What counts
Cash, bank balances, savings, gold and silver, investments, goods for sale and money owed to you that you expect back. Your home, car and personal belongings are not counted.
Debts you owe
Debts and bills you must pay now are subtracted first. Scholars differ on long-term debts, so enter only what is due now.
Rules vary by country: Turkey's Diyanet, for example, uses 80.18 g of gold, and Pakistan often quotes the nisab in tola. The result is an estimate, so check with your local scholar or zakat authority.

How do I calculate zakat on my savings?
On your zakat date, add your cash and bank balances, subtract the debts you must pay now, and compare the net with the nisab. If it is at or above the nisab and you have held at least that much for a lunar year, 2.5% is due. Example: savings of 12,000 minus 2,000 due now leaves 10,000, so the zakat is 250.
What is the nisab in 2026?
The nisab is the value of 85 g of gold or 595 g of silver, so its amount in money moves with prices every day. Multiply today's price per gram by 85 for gold or by 595 for silver, or type the gram price into the calculator above and it shows the nisab in your currency.
Should I use the gold or the silver nisab?
Both are used by scholars. The silver nisab is lower, so more people reach it; the gold nisab is higher. Choose the one your scholar or local authority follows โ the calculator works with either.
Is zakat due on gold jewellery?
Gold and silver kept as savings or investment are zakatable. For jewellery that is worn, scholars differ: the Hanafi school counts it, while many other scholars exempt jewellery in normal personal use. Enter the value of any gold you count under "Gold and silver you own". The zakat screen in the Solvory app lets you choose either view.
Do my debts reduce my zakat?
Debts you owe and must pay now are deducted from your zakatable wealth before the nisab is checked. Long-term debts are treated differently by different scholars, so add only what is due now.
Is money that people owe me zakatable?
Money owed to you that you expect to get back is usually counted with your wealth. Debts you are unlikely to recover are usually left out until you receive them.
